1. Our commitment
In short. We want everyone, including people who use assistive technology or older devices, to be able to use the SchoolPort website.
We aim for the public SchoolPort website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This statement covers the public website only: the home, platform, product, company, legal, status and registration pages. It does not yet cover the signed-in staff portals or the BLUE app for parents and students.
2. Where we are today
In short. Automated checks and keyboard testing pass. An independent audit and testing with screen readers are still to come.
We believe the public website is substantially accessible, but we have not yet had it independently audited, so we do not claim formal conformance. What we have done:
- Scanned every public page with the axe-core engine against WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, on desktop and phone widths and in light and dark display modes, and fixed what it found.
- Tested by keyboard alone: a skip-to-content link comes first, every control can be reached and shows a visible focus outline, and the menu closes with Escape and returns focus to its button.
- Checked that pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen without sideways scrolling, so they stay usable at high zoom.
- Made sure animations switch off when your device asks for reduced motion, and that printed pages show all content.
Not yet done: a full manual review with screen readers on desktop and mobile, and an audit by an outside accessibility specialist. We will update this statement when they are complete.
3. Tools built into the site
In short. A built-in panel lets you change how pages look, without installing anything.
Open the accessibility button at the lower left of any page to turn on high contrast, larger text, extra text spacing, a more legible font, underlined links, a stronger focus outline, a larger cursor, a reading guide, grayscale, or a text-only view without images. You can also stop animations. Your choices are remembered on your device.
Your browser and operating system settings, such as zoom, reduced motion and dark mode, are respected as well.
4. Known limitations
In short. Some things are not fully accessible yet.
- The signed-in staff portals and the BLUE app have not been through the same review. They are used by schools and families under their own accounts.
- The anti-bot check on our forms is provided by Cloudflare and may ask for an extra step. If it blocks you, contact us and we will help you another way.
- The information pack PDF is generated from the web page. It has tags and a heading outline for screen readers, but it has not been tested with one.
- Some documents uploaded or created by schools inside their own portals are not controlled by us.
5. Tell us about a problem
In short. If something does not work for you, write to us and we will help.
If you find a barrier, or need information in another format, email support@schoolportsis.com and tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you use. We will read every report and tell you what we can do.
